Granville is a seaside resort, situated North of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel, facing Cancale; principally a cod fishing port, it became the first port of France for shell fishing.

Granville is partly built on crystalline rock cliffs called Pointe du Roc and Cap Lihou. Eastwards, more cliffs and the river Boscq surround the town.
Granville has four sand beaches. The town belongs to a charity called Les plus beaux détours de France : « the most beautiful detours in France », a true sign of its environmental qualities and its beauty.
